ClimateCafé Grensmaas

23 April 10:00 26 April 17:00

Are you a student and do you want to think with us about a fish-friendly Grensmaas? We challenge you to join our ClimateCafe!

Activities
In this ClimateCafe, we go out in the field together with scientist, fishers and nature-appreciators around the Bosscherveld weir. We bring our aquatic underwater drone to assess the water quality, we hunt on macro-fauna, we take sound-samples and we explore multiple ways of experiencing a river through observations and interviews. In the end, we also will help to collect solid waste and will try to make an art piece of plastic with the guidance of artists.

For whom?
Climate and environmental challenges are not solvable by one discipline. We therefore invite a interdisciplinary group of students. It does not matter what study you do or in what year you are. You can also subscribe with a group.

Problem frame
Over the past few years, the landscape around the Grensmaas has changed substantially. The high-water of last summer demonstrates again how important it is to give the river space. Together with flood protection, the Grensmaas project has aimed to improve biodiversity while keeping gravel extraction possible. The terrestrial biodiversity has improved over the past few years, but the aquatic biodiversity deserves more attention. In this, climate change will have a role, as it influences water availability and temperature.
